Info extra: Steve nació en Northwich, ciudad cercana a Manchester. Empezó a tocar la batería porque así se lo pidió un chico de su escuela que andaba en busca de alguien para su grupo. Fue autodidacta y a con 17 años ya enseñaba a otros. Formó parte de diversas bandas: Electric Crayons junto a Tim Burguess de los Charlatans; Boo Radleys, participando en la grabación de su álbum de debut; estuvo envuelto en el proyecto K- Klass, que hacían música de baile, y al mismo tiempo formaba parte del grupo Breed.
Cuando tanto compromiso le permitía, solía acompañar a un tipo llamado Brian, a quien había conocido a través de una amiga en común, en los conciertos que éste daba de vez en cuando. De hecho, Steve tocó en las primeras demos de Placebo pero su actividad con Breed le obligó a dejar estas colaboraciones y fue sustituido por Robert Schultzberg quien sería el batería en el primer álbum de Placebo. Respecto a esto Steve comentó "escuché el primer LP de Placebo y pensé que Robert era técnicamente un buen batería, pero en términos de sentimiento y ritmo parecía que estaba luchando contra ello. Yo simplemente he ordenado los tiempos en el material que fue hecho antes de que me uniera, simplemente poner mas ritmo, más sentimiento en ello. Hacerlo menos tenso" . Y es que cuando Robert dejó Placebo, Steve fue el primer batería a quien Brian llamó y éste, por supuesto, aceptó la propuesta " me senté en mi habitación con mi equipo de ensayo durante dos semanas y aprendí el LP. Entonces tuvimos un día y medio para ensayar antes de ir de gira por trece países en cuatro meses!"

Extra info: Steve was born in Northwich, a city near Manchester. He started to play drums because a kid at school - who was looking for a drummer for his band- asked him to. He was a self taught player and at 17 was already teaching others. He was in different bands: Electric Crayons alongside Tim Burguess of the Charlatans; Boo Radleys, featuring on their debut album; he was also involved in the K- Klass project, that made dance music and, at the time, he was part of Breed.
When his commitments permitted, Steve used to join in gigs that a guy called Brian - whom he had met through a mutual friend - played occasionally. In fact Steve played on the first Placebo demos but his activity with Breed made him leave these contributions and was replaced by Robert Schultzberg who played drums on the first Placebo album. In this respect Steve said once " I listened to the first Placebo LP and thought Robert was technically a good drummer, but in terms of feel and groove it felt like he was fighting it. I've just sorted out the tempos really, on the stuff that was done before I joined, and just put more groove, more feel in it. Made it less uptight". That 's how it was, when Robert left Placebo, Steve was the first drummer phoned by Brian and he, of course, accepted the proposal "I sat in my bedroom with my practice kit for two weeks and learnt the LP. Then we had one and a half days rehearsal before touring thirteen countries in four months!".
