Placebo Fashion-junkies – MTV Designerama

Placebo serán los invitados especiales de un espectáculo que organiza la MTV Alemana haciendo a la ciudad de Berlin la capital de la moda. El evento tendrá lugar el próximo 29 de Septiembre en Berlin en el Centro de Congresos y Eventos situado en el Hangar 2 del aereopuerto Berlin Tempelhof. Este será el último concierto de Placebo en Alemania hasta el 2006.

Aparte de Placebo habrá otros artistas mas por la linea electrónica como Felix da Housecat.

Placebo tocarán entre 30 y 40 minutos aproximadamente.

Next September 29 MTV will make Berlin the new fashion capital. For second time MTV Designerama takes the stage and shows the newst styles. Fashion meets music – and a funny aftershow party won’t be missed. It will take place at Congress & Event Center in Berlin Airport Tempelhof.

The headliner for that Special night will be Placebo giving their last German concert till 2006. Among models and fashion there will be other music artist more inside the eletronic scene as Felix da Housecat.

Placebo will be on stage between 30 and 40 minutes approximately.

Ya están confirmados los artistas invitados que abrirán la noche del 5 de Noviembre en el Wembley Arena antes de que Placebo salgan al escenario, serán Har Mar Superstar y The Departure.

Already confirmed the bands that will open the Wembley Arena night on November 5th before Placebo take their place on stage, they will be Har Mar Superstar and The Departure.

Har Mar Superstar parece ser un curioso personaje, loco, atrevido, que prácticamente se desnuda en todos sus conciertos entre bailes de breakdance llevando consigo un stereo portatil. Hay que destacar que al parecer no es mal compositor, de hecho ha escrito canciones para Jennifer Lopez y Kelly Osbourne. Íntimo amigo de Peaches, lleva una trayectoria de 4 años de escándalo y provocación en el escenario. Coincidió con Placebo en el Reading Festival de éste año. web

To put it bluntly, Har Mar Superstar (a.k.a. Sean Tillman) is a balding, out-of-shape white man with a pencil-thin moustache who croons sex-laden R&B tunes while breakdancing. His live shows, sung to the backing of a small boom box, usually culminate in Har Mar stripping down to his underwear (often of the tighty whitey variety). That’s only part of the story, though, for he also happens to sing well and write some fine tunes. In fact, he has penned songs for Jennifer Lopez and Kelly Osbourne. He’s also a good friend of Peaches, and has been in the music scene since 4 years ago. The Departure son una banda nueva, formada en enero de 2004, compuesta por 5 jóvenes entre 21 y 23 años que acaban de sacar su primer disco, y cuentan que entre sus álbumes favoritos se encuentra el Violator de Depeche Mode, Meat Is Murder de los Smiths y el War de U2. También mencionan a Gary Numan, Suede y Blur entre artistas preferidos.

En cuanto a sonido, han sido muy relacionados con Interpol, siendo sus padres espirituales algunas bandas de los 80 como Joy Division y Echo and the Bunnymen, aunque son demasiado jóvenes para recordar estos grupos. The Departure have only been together since January 2004, but these five, fresh-faced young men – aged between 21 and 23 – have a belief and a plan that belies both their years and their road miles.

The Departure’s favourite albums, Depeche Mode’s ‘Violator’, The Smiths’ ‘ Meat Is Murder’ and U2’s ‘War’ amongst them. The band have time for other British names, too, names like Blur, Suede and Gary Numan. They’re not necessarily all fans of the music these people make (and certainly, The Departure really sound nothing like them), but they are fans of their peculiarly British viewpoint, of their record sleeves, and of the way they present themselves to the world.

The Departure’s spiritual fathers are the doomy-but-somehow-life-affirming bands of the early Eighties, bands like Joy Division and Echo And The Bunnymen. But of course, they’re all too young to remember these groups. Just the other week, someone told them they sounded a bit like The Chameleons. They’d never heard of them. web

‘Twenty Years’ & ‘I Do’ [info Virgin]

‘Twenty Years’ será el tema que salga como single el próximo 18 de Octubre adelantando al recopilatorio ‘Once More With Feeling: Singles 1996-2004′, el tema ya se puede escuchar en algunas radios y ya se ha rodado el video que tendrá una atmósfera victoriana y bailarinas de danza clásica. ‘Twenty Years’ es una colaboración de ocho años entre Brian y el cantante de AC Acoustics, Paul Campion, la canción es, según Brian “pura melancolía épica, una meditación sobre el paso del tiempo y la mortalidad.” ¡Uf!. “Pero no es deprimente.” .

‘I do’ será el otro tema nuevo incluído en el recopilatorio. Placebo regresó al estudio con Phil Vinall y dos reglas: 1) nada de guitarras y 2) tiene que quedar todo reducido a menos de dos minutos y medio. El resultado es ‘I Do’, con influencias de Neu! y Laurie Anderson, y es la primera canción de amor feliz de Placebo.

“Llevábamos amenazando con hacerla años y finalmente la hemos hecho”, explica Brian. “Esto viene coleando desde hace dos o tres años, la primer canción de amor feliz de Placebo. O te encanta o las vas a odiar, es un tema que polarizará opinión. Creo que va a causar conmoción. No sé si va a ganar la antipatía de algunos de nuestros fans, pero formar parte de una banda vital significa arriesgarse. La canción va sobre conocer a alguien y enamorarse locamente y de los sentimientos que experimentas en esos momentos, que por lo general son bastante fugaces. Trata sobre conocer a alguien y querer ser esa persona porque piensas que es tan gloriosamente maravillosa. Creamos una canción pop muy disfuncional, que no debería de funcionar pero funciona. Suena tan absurdamente feliz que suena como bajo los efectos del Prozac. Es música de ascensor de estado de ánimo inducido por antidepresivos. Hay en ella algo que es bastante parecido a drogas de prescripción.”

La canción se presentó en la radio francesa RTL2 el pasado 7 de Septiembre con un chat online.

‘Twenty Years’ will be out next October 18 to be the single for the band’s singles compilation, this song is being played in some Radio Stations and the video has been already shot, it will have a victorian atmosphere and some classic dancers on it. ‘Twenty Years’ is an 8 years collaboration between Brian Molko and AC Acoustics singer, Paul Campion, Brian said this song is “pure epic melancholy, a meditation on the passing of time and mortality but it’s not miserable!”

‘I Do’ will be the other new song included in their singles collection. Placebo came back to the studio with Paul Vinall under 2 rules 1) no guitars and 2)everything reduced to less than 2,30 minutes, the result ‘I Do’, influenced by Neu! and Laurie Anderson, is Placebos’ first unashamed love song. “We’ve been threatening to do it for years and we’ve finally done it”, says Brian ’ is our first unashamed happy love song I s’pose. And it’s got no guitar on it, which we’re really happy about. It’s a song that sounds like it’s under Prozac, its like ‘Medication time boys!’ It’s so deliriously happy that it can’t be natural.”.

The song was played for the first time last September 7 on the French radio station RTL2 with an online chat.

Según explica Brian sobre el recopilatorio “Es para recordarnos a nosotros mismos lo que hemos sido y lo que hemos logrado en estos diez años”, dice Brian. “Nunca hemos sido un grupo que trabaja siguiendo una fórmula y si se escucha este álbum de principio a fin, se puede apreciar una evolución en el grupo. Se puede escuchar cuánto hemos cambiado en estos diez años pasados y es muy interesante.” Por coincidencia, pero convenientemente, también llega como un tributo y compendio de sus años en el sello Hut que quebró este año (Placebo han firmado ahora con Virgin para todo el mundo).“Estoy muy triste”, cuenta Brian, “esa gente ha estado con nosotros desde el principio. Pero así son las cosas en el negocio de la música en estos momentos y no hay mucho que nosotros podamos hacer. Fue un día muy triste cuando nos enteramos, pero para nosotros supone un nuevo comienzo.”

El grupo se meterá en el estudio en Año Nuevo para empezar a trabajar en su quinto álbum (que Brian promete que será otra partida dramática que gira alrededor de “las mejores canciones que hemos compuesto”) Placebo llevan la fiesta de los singles a un lugar al que juraron que nunca se aventurarían. Wembley. “Es algo que dijimos que nunca haríamos”, explica Brian avergonzado, “pero en parte es para fastidiar y en parte para decir que lo hemos hecho. Va a ser un poco como una fiesta. Será el último concierto hasta el 2006. Va a ser una noche divertida.”

Brian says that the singles collection is to remind them what they’ve been and what they have achieved, “We’re an albums band so we’ve never really gone into the studio specifically to write singles before so we were really confused by that. We didn’t know how to write a single. So we went in with ideas that weren’t even started and threw shit at the wall and saw what stuck and we came out with two things that we were really, really happy with”

“It’s something we said we’d never do,” Brian says sheepishly, “but it’s partly to stick a middle finger up and partly to say you’ve done it. It’s gonna be a bit of a party. It’ll be the last gig until 2006. It’s gonna be a fun night.”

Finalmente el recopilatorio de singles del grupo saldrá a la venta el próximo 25 de Octubre precedido por un single que saldrá el 18 de Octubre presentando la canción nueva ‘Twenty Years’.

‘Once More With Feeling: Singles 1996-2004′ tendrá 2 ediciones en CD y en DVD, el DVD presentará nuevas imágenes del grupo aun no vistas y una entrevista reciente hecha especialmente para la ocasión.

Para celebrar el recopilatorio de singles que marca los 8 años de carrera del grupo Placebo ahn decidido hacer un concierto que marque época, lleno de sorpresas y por supuesto incluyendo un buen repaso de los temas de este recopilatorio.

El concierto tendrá lugar el próximo 5 de Noviembre en el Wembley Arena [Londres]. Este será el último concierto que el grupo dará en UK hasta el 2006.

Por fin queda confirmada la publicación del recopilatorio de singles, saldrá a través de Virgin para el próximo 18 de Octubre. El título del recopilatorio será ‘Once More With Feeling’ e incluirá todos los singles editados por la banda hasta ahora cubriendo sus 4 albums, ‘Placebo’, ‘Without You I’m Nothing’, ‘Black Market Music’ y ‘Sleeping With Ghosts’. También incluirá 2 temas nuevos y uno de ellos saldrá como single un poco antes, el 4 de Octubre.

Finally the Placebo singles collection has been confirmed. It’ll be out through Virgin next October 18 with the title ‘Once More With Feeling’, and will include all the band’s singles released to date covering their four albums ‘Placebo’, ‘Without You I’m Nothing’, ‘Black Market Music’ and ‘Sleeping With Ghosts’. 2 new tracks will be also included being one of them a new single that will be on stores a bit earlier, October 4th.

CONCIERTO ACÚSTICO EN PARÍS >> SPECIAL ACOUSTIC GIG IN PARIS

El próximo 30 de junio tendrá lugar en el Olympia de París uno de los conciertos más especiales de la gira de Sleeping with Ghost. Este concierto organizado por la radio francesa RTL2 es un único concierto privado en el que placebo compartirá escenario con uno de los grandes: The Cure. También actuarán Mickey 3D, Etienne Daho y Calogero. El afortunado público que lo presencie, disfrutará de un setlist completamente acústico.

An special private concert will take place next June 30 in Paris [Olympia], the special point of this gig is that it’ll be completely acoustic and Placebo will play alongside one of the most important bands in the scene: The Cure, and other artists as Mickey 3D, Etienne Daho y Calogero.

TRABAJANDO >> WORKING

El grupo se encuentra ahora mismo en Francia componiendo y trabajando en temas nuevos. Está en proyecto el sacar un recopilatorio de singles para finales de año en el que incluirán al menos un par de temas nuevos, y se realizará también algún video para estos temas.

Aprovechando su estancia por Francia estuvieron presentes en el Festival de Cannes en la presentación de la nueva película de Asia Argento ‘ The Heart Is Deceitful Above All things’ para la cual estuvieron a punto de realizar la banda sonora por completo y que al parecer no se llegó a un acuerdo final.

The band is right now working on new songs in France. It is to be released a singles compilation for the end of the year including a couple of new songs and their videos.

As they are in France they were at Cannes film Festival for the launch of Asia Argento’s last movie ‘ The Heart Is Deceitful Above All things’, they were to work in this movie sound track but finally it didn’t come to happen.

Finally Placebo DVD ‘Placebo Soul Mates Never Die – Live in Paris’ has a date to be released in USA. It’ll be on stores next June 29th.

El grupo está ahora en pleno descanso aun dentro de la gira de su último álbum ‘Sleeping with ghosts’ que continuará viajando por el mundo a comienzos de verano. Por desgracia no pasarán por España en verano, esperemos que nos hagan una visita para otoño o finales de año.

En este tiempo de descanso Brian ha estado como DJ en Tailandia en este pasado mes de Abril. Mientras tanto Stefan ha estado de vacaciones por España, durante las cuáles realizó una improvisada sesión como DJ en el Home Bar (Madrid). Parte de este tiempo de vacaciones también lo han invertido en empezar a componer nuevos temas antes de retomar los escenarios.

The band is right now having a little break still inside their ‘Sleeping with ghosts’ tour which will be on road again at the begining of the Summer. It’s a shame that they won’t visit Spain in Summer, we hope they’ll come sometime in Autum or at the end of the year.

The band is also working on new songs in this little break.

En el nuevo DVD de Placebo hay dos tracks escondidos que son una pequeña delicia que acompaña al concierto de Paris y el documental de la gira del 2003. Para ver estos ‘Easter Eggs’ en el DVD sólo tenéis que seguir estos sencillos pasos:

Fiesta Bionic – Jueves 4 Marzo 2003 – resumen – Presentación del DVD

Con 11 días de antelación y gran expectación por parte del público español, se pudo disfrutar en el HOME BAR (C/Fomento 30 Madrid) del DVD ‘Placebo Soul Mates Never Die – Live in Paris’.

HOME BAR en colaboración con BIONIC-CLUB y VIRGIN ofrecieron esta primicia en una fiesta de ambiente íntimo y acompañada de la música de PLACEBO hasta que comenzó el visionado del DVD a las 23:00.

El concierto grabado en Bercy (Paris) en la gira de 2003 es una magnífica muestra de la madurez que ha adquirido Placebo a lo largo de sus cuatro discos y sus nueve años de andanzas sobre los escenarios. Un concierto en el que se recorren temas de sus cuatro álbumes de estudio con una calidad inmejorable en cuanto a sonido se refiere gracias a la personal voz de Brian Molko y la inmejorable presencia en el escenario de Stefan Olsdal, convertido ya en un intachable icono de la banda con la misma fuerza que lo es su vocalista. La percusión excepcional de Steve Hewitt y el apoyo de los dos músicos que les acompañan durante la gira (Bill Lloyd y Xavior Roide) hacen que no se pierda ni un detalle de la música que escuchamos en sus discos, tanto por su fuerza, como por sus detalles que, sobre todo en este último disco llenan sus canciones de pequeñas delicias electrónicas.

En cuanto a la puesta en escena y grabación del DVD, muestran la personalidad del grupo por completo. Desde el vestuario de la banda creando ese gran contraste (Brian de blanco, Stef de negro) hasta los efectos de montaje del DVD que dan al concierto una energía y una vitalidad sublime. El broche de oro de la escenografía lo da la iluminación, que resalta todas las sensaciones transmitidas desde el escenario y haciendo que temas como English Summer Rain y Centrefolds lleguen directamente al público haciendo que los fantasmas de su último disco cautiven tanto a las 18000 personas que en ese momento disfrutaban de la banda como a los que lo hacemos a través de la pantalla.

El punto y final del concierto también es extraordinario con la colaboración de Frank Black (Pixies) tanto cantando como tocando la guitarra al interpretar Where is my Mind, una de las últimas versiones realizadas por Placebo y que ha cerrado muchos de los conciertos de su última gira.

Y como no podía faltar en un buen DVD, unos grandiosos contenidos extras que nos ofrecen divertidos momentos de la banda en su última gira, pasando por los grandes festivales, la gira en EEUU -que entre otras cosas tiene escenas muy graciosas de la banda en Las Vegas- y los momentos de la banda en México donde vemos a los Placebo más humanos y joviales. Además se incluye como extra una pequeña actuación que sin duda hará sonreír a todos los fans mostrándonos unos de los momentos más glamourosos de la gira.

Sin duda, en este DVD los seguidores de Placebo encontrarán lo mejor de placebo, desde su increíble elegancia y buen directo en el escenario, hasta el lado más personal de estos chicos en sus momentos de gira.

We have some news about the contents of the new DVD, it’ll include 25 minutes of documetal that will show us images about their long tour last year 2003 in Europe, USA, and Central America, and some extras like backstage images, meetings with fans, and the daily life of the band in their tour.

Video ‘protége-moi’

En una web dedicada al cineasta Gaspar Noé podreis ver ya unas imágenes del video de ‘protége moi’ que al parecer no se trasmitirá por los canales de música habituales y que saldrá con el single francés.

Podeis ver algunas de las imágenes y comentar el tema en el foro de Bionic.

El cuarto single de ’sleeping with ghosts’ será ‘English Summer Rain’ que saldrá el próximo 23 de Febrero.

También se publicará en Francia en la primavera de 2004 el single de Protect me from what i want en su versión en francés: Protège-moi. Esta versión ya fue interpretada en francés por Placebo a lo largo de esta gira y está siendo pinchado en las emisoras francesas y ahora también en las españolas

The forth single taken from ’sleeping with ghosts’ will be ‘English Summer Rain’ it’ll be out next February 23.

It will be released in France a single including a french version of ‘protect me from what I want’ called: ‘protege-moi’ next spring. The band played this version in their french tour and now it’s been played in some european radio stations.
