La música no abandona a áquel que trabaja con ella. Incluso en los momentos de descanso, siempre hay una parte del cerebro dedicada a combinar sonidos. Es en estos momentos en los que Stefan Olsdal, después de un año de duro trabajo con el lanzamiento de 'meds' y una gira mundial, mantiene su actividad creativa independientemente de su labor en Placebo.

En Madrid, durante principios de 2007, Stefan y David Amen han tenido unas semanas de dedicación completa a Hotel Persona: composición de nuevos temas, preparación de su álbum debut y 'dj-sets' en la agitada vida nocturna de Madrid y otras ciudades españolas. Con un gran eclecticismo a la hora de componer y actuar, Hotel Persona es un proyecto concebido para unir el concepto del anonimato y el frenesí de un Hotel con el concepto de identidad implícito en cada Persona.

Bionic-club ha tenido la oportunidad de charlar con los chicos de este particular Hotel y acercarles las preguntas que sus seguidores se han cuestionado: orígenes, influencias, planes de futuro y muchas más curiosidades que se resuelven a continuación:

Bionic:: ¿Cómo decidisteis formar Hotel Persona? ¿De quién fue la idea? ¿Cómo os conocisteis?
Stefan:: Nos conocimos en Londres hace un montón de tiempo en un Club que hay en Brixton, pero Hotel Persona no surgió hasta mucho tiempo después; hace 4 o 5 anos que David comenzó a escribir canciones a las que yo ponía la instrumentación; no puedo decir que ‘decidiesemos' hacer Hotel Persona en un momento particular, sino que surgió poco a poco.

Bionic:: Stefan, ¿afecta de alguna manera a Placebo?
Stefan:: No, Hotel Persona es algo que hago cuando tengo un descanso de Placebo, escribo diferentes tipos de música y no todo tiene cabida dentro de Placebo, eso es lo que encuentro interesante de tener este otro proyecto, que puedo desarrollar otras facetas y tipos de música que de otro modo se me quedarían perdidas.

Bionic:: ¿Qué grupos os han influenciado principalmente?
David:: Las bandas que mas me han interesado en diferentes momentos han sido: Pegamoides. Golpes Bajos, Cure, Smiths, Prince, Pet Shop Boys, Suede, Blur, Bjork, Fangoria, Blondie……y muchas otras más; últimamente cosas como Royksopp, The Knife, Jay-Jay Johanson.

Bionic:: ¿Quién le puso el nombre al grupo? ¿Qué es Hotel Persona?
David:: En un principio queríamos llamarnos Material, pero resulta que hay una banda Americana que ya se llamaba así que tuvimos que pensar otra cosa y la verdad es que nos costo hasta que encontramos Hotel Persona. Stefan tenia un DVD de una película de Ingmar Bergman que se llama Persona (es una película muy extraña de su primera etapa) y nos pareció que era el nombre perfecto, pero encontramos que ya había 2 o 3 bandas que tenían este nombre así que le añadimos Hotel que de alguna forma es como lo contrario de Persona. En un hotel puedes ser anónimo, es una residencia temporal y puedes pretender ser quien quieras, y persona es de lo que no puedes escapar, la persona que eres va contigo desde que naces hasta el fin. Nos pareció interesante combinar estos dos conceptos.

Bionic:: ¿Qué planes como grupo tenéis para Hotel Persona?
HP::Por lo pronto sacar el disco que tenemos preparado, seguir escribiendo y desarrollando este proyecto.

Bionic:: ¿Tenéis pensado seguir haciendo remixes a otros grupos? Habéis hecho ya muchas sesiones como djs, ¿qué es lo que más os gusta de esas sesiones?
Stefan:: Hotel Persona tiene diferentes facetas…..
Como probablemente sabéis hemos hecho un par de remixes para Placebo, She Wants Revenge y United, claro que pensamos seguir haciendo siempre que nos surja algo que nos parezca suficientemente interesante; hacer remixes nos encanta, te encuentras con una canción ya hecha a la que vas a transformar en algo diferente, ofreces otra visión de la canción, es como un juego y es muy inmediato.
Como Dj también hemos estado rulando por montones de sitios y nos gusta hacerlo, ponemos la música que a nosotros nos gustaría bailar cuando salimos y parece que la gente lo pasa bien. No nos limitamos a un tipo de música, ponemos un poco de todo desde cosas que tienen mas de 20 años hasta temas de ahora, desde Nine Inch Nails hasta Madonna.

Bionic:: Contadnos algo de vuestro albúm. ¿Cuando saldrá? ¿Lo promocionaréis internacionalmente? ¿español e ingles? ¿algún video?
Stefan:: Todavía están muchas cosas en el aire, por el momento estamos viendo con quien lo podemos firmar. Nuestra intención, si todo va bien, es que salga este año como a finales del verano pero nada esta seguro.
La mayor parte de las canciones son en Español, (David escribe las letras) así que primero saldrá aquí y luego ya veremos.

Bionic:: Algún plan de gira como grupo? ¿Haréis alguna presentación del disco?
Stefan:: Aunque aun es muy pronto……me imagino que haremos algo para cuando termine la gira con Placebo. Pero ya os iremos contando según vayamos teniendo mas información.

Estas respuestas y las noches de diversión en sus sesiones de estos meses nos hacen impacientarnos más por su álbum debut plagado de interesantes colaboraciones como la de Alaska o Brian Molko. No será hasta después de la incipiente gira de Placebo cuando disfrutemos la continuación de este proyecto pero deseamos a David Amen y a Stefan Olsdal que triunfen en ese Hotel Persona en el que todos tendremos que pernoctar en algún momento.

HOTEL PERSONA ANSWER FAN QUESTIONS

Music doesn't leave the one who works with it. Even in rest moments, there is an area in the brain devote to combine sounds. It is in those moments when Stefan Olsdal, after a hard work year launching 'Meds' and an international tour, he keeps his creative activity apart from his work with Placebo.

Stefan and David Amen have had a few weeks of complete dedication to Hotel Persona while being in Madrid at the beginning of the year: writing new songs, getting ready their debut album and some dj-sets in the busy Madrid 's night and in other Spanish cities. Writing and acting inside a big eclecticism, Hotel Persona is a project done to join the anonymity and the madness found in a Hotel with the identity concept inside each person.

Bionic-club have had the chance to talk to the boys from this particular Hotel and pass them the questions from their fans: beginnings, influences, future plans and many other curiosities which are here answered:

Bionic:: ¿How did you decide to form Hotel Persona? ¿How had the idea? ¿How did you meet?
Stefan:: We met in London a long time ago in a Club in Brixton, but Hotel Persona didn't come up till a long time after that; David began to write songs which I set to music; I can't say that we ‘decided' to form Hotel Persona in an specific moment but that it was rised bit a bit.

Bionic:: Stefan, ¿Does Hotel Persona affect to Placebo in some way?
Stefan:: No, Hotel Persona is something I do when I have a break of Placebo, I write different kind of music and not all this music have place in Placebo, that's what I find interesting in this side project, that I can develop other aspects and kinds of music that would be lost in other way.

Bionic::¿Which bands have influenced you mainly?
David:: The bands which have interested me in different moments have been: Pegamoides. Golpes Bajos, Cure, Smiths, Prince, Pet Shop Boys, Suede, Blur, Bjork, Fangoria, Blondie…… and many others; lately bands like Royksopp, The Knife, Jay-Jay Johanson.

Bionic:: ¿Who gave the name to the band? ¿What is Hotel Persona?
David:: At the beginning we wanted to be Material, but it happens that there is an American band with that name already, so we had to think of something different and honestly it took us time till we found Hotel Persona. Stefan had a DVD movie by Ingmar Bergman called Persona (it's a very strange film from his beginnings) and we thought this name was perfect, but we found out that there were 2 or 3 bands already with that name, so we added Hotel that is the opposite to Persona in some way. You can be anonymous in a hotel, it's a temporary residence, you can pretend to be whoever you like, and Persona is something you can't escape from, the person you are goes with you since you are born till the end. We thought it was interesting to mix these two concepts.

Bionic:: ¿Which are the plans as a band for Hotel Persona?
HP:: At the moment to release the album that we have ready, going on writing and developing this project.

Bionic:: ¿Is it in your plans going on remixing other bands?
You have done many Dj sessions, ¿what do you enjoy the most of these sessions?
Stefan:: Hotel Persona have different sides….
As you probably know we have done a couple of remixes for Placebo, She Wants Revenge and United. Of course we'll go on doing it whenever it comes up something we find sufficiently interesting; we love making remixes, you come across a song already done which you are going to change in something different, you show a different view of that song, it's like a game and it's very immediate.
As Djs we have been touring around a lot of places and we like it, we play the music we'd like to dance when we go out and it seems people have a good time. We don't restrict to just one kind of music, we play all kinds from songs which are more than 20 years old till new ones, from Nine Inch Nails to Madonna.

Bionic:: Tell us something about your album. ¿When will be released? ¿Will you launch it internationally ? ¿Spanish or English? ¿Videos?
Stefan:: There are many things still in the air, at the moment we are deciding which company we can firm with. Our purpose, in case everything goes all right, is to release it this year, at the end of summer or something like that, but there is nothing sure yet.
Most of the songs are written in Spanish (David writes the lyrics) so it will be released firstly here and then we'll see.

Bionic:: ¿Any plan of tour as a band? ¿ Will you do an special album launching?
Stefan:: Although it's very soon yet… I think we'll do something when I finish Placebo's tour. But we'll keep telling you as we are having more information.

These answers, and the funny nights they have given us in their dj-sets make us lose patient more and more in the waiting for their debut album full of interesting collaborations, as Alaska or Brian Molko. We will have to wait till the end of Placebo tour to enjoy of this project. We wish the best to David Amen and to Stefan Olsdal for their Hotel Persona, a place where all of us will have to stay for one night at any moment.
